Corner Speed – December 2016

Hello and welcome to the December competition report.  It’s hard to believe the final round of the MSCA Super sprint series was held on the 23rd October.  The Triumph national meeting was held the week of the sprint round and a good number of Triumphs were present on the starting grid.  Due to the nature of the MSCA there is always a variety of interesting cars on the track which makes it an interesting day of motorsport.

90 cars took to the track in session 1, AROCA contributing 14 competitors.  Dale Ashby’s Montreal is still off the road so he attacked the track in his Porsche 911, Ian Crouch was back in his Porsche Boxster, Keith Wong brought the Ferrari out for its annual run.  I know what you are thinking, “what about the Alfas?”, well the stalwarts were all there, Malcolm Ebel looked noticeable faster with his extra 10 horse power courteous of a recent dyno tune, Andrew Scadding had his race engineer tuning his Koni’s, Chris Tilbrook continue his march towards the low 1:30s, Neil Heywood made the right decision to leave the Triumph at home,  Dave Parken’s GTV6 sounded a bit rough when he lost a bung from his exhaust system, Peter Axford was smooth as usual and yours truly tried hard but didn’t take home the chocolates.

For round 5 AROCA had the responsibility to provide flag marshals and I was fortunate to have a number of club members volunteer their time.  A big thank from me and my fellow sprinters to the following members, Steve Weedon, Joe Ricciardi, Phil Reeves and Adam Hughes.

2016 was a good year for AROCA, not that I have many years of experience to compare it to, with 24 individual drivers, completing 216 laps, with 13 drivers representing our historic marque.  A summary the year can be seen in the next table

News from the MSCA includes the come and try event for next year and the trophy day.  The come and try event will be combined with the first sprint round of the year.  Places will be limited and entrants will likely form sixth group on the day.  The provisional date for this event is the 12th of March.  This event is perfect for those who have considered sprinting but have not yet taken the plunge.  I’ll publish more detail about the event as it comes to hand.  The annual MSCA trophy day will be held on the 26th February so please the save the date, the location will be advised once it has been confirmed

Until next month remember corner speed is everything.
