Team AIM (Alfetta’s In Motion) have been challenging this event, or has this event been challenging our team, me thinks it is more the latter. You see Team AIM have been competing in these 6 hour events for the past 11 years with some very good results, finishing in the top three many times but never the top spot on the podium, maybe 2013 is the year for Team AIM to take victory. Many of our club members have joined Team AIM as drivers, with Team AIM soon becoming known as the team for AROCA SA members driving an Alfetta GT or GTV, following are the club drivers over these past 11 years, Matthew Ebel, Murray Furze, Al Harris, Andrew Scadding, Clive Bennett, Keith Wong, Colin Lock, Julie Crafter, John Phelps, Geoff Heaven, Frederick Welsh, Jim Delaine, in more recent times we have enjoyed the driving exploits of, Andrew Ebel, Sam Schmidt, Christopher Crouch and this year we were joined for the first time by our magazine editor Viano Jaksa, now that is a fine ‘bunch of gentlemen and Lady pushing their Alfa to the limit in an effort to ensure team success with a tank full of fun along the way.

This year we had 3 of our Alfetta’s that experienced some form of mechanical challenge at the end of last year and some with major challenges this year, however, all was going to be well before this 6 hour ‘cos three of us were practicing on the Saturday, Andrew Ebel, Malcolm Ebel and John Phelps, who travelled down from Bordertown to join us and stay overnight in Adelaide. Practice went well for the three of us until a little minor gremlin attacked “The little Italian Flag on wheels”, with practice over we parked the three cars in our sheds for the night with Andrew E putting up the final touches, red, white and green streamers in our sheds ready for the next day, off home we go so we could all be bright eyed and Bushy tailed sitting trackside at 7.30am Sunday, no doubt with at least 3 cars that would not let the team down during this very challenging event, well that is after we check and see why “The Little Italian Flag on Wheels” Starter will not burst into life when convinced it was time to play. Andrew Scadding checks under the bonnet, all ok under here, better check the wires on your console, now everyone knows you do not have to dismantle your console to check wires but I did, well almost did, just as well Philippe Reeves was watching through the window what this master mechanic was about to do, in a voice as calm as any priest on a Sunday morning, we here, Malcolm, are they fuse holders alongside that Starter switch, well yes they are in fact Philippe, well why don’t you check them first, of course Philippe, you guessed it, blown fuse, replace that, Philippe firmly attaches a couple of wires under the bonnet under the starter, gets covered in grease to the elbows and we are away. By this time our Chef’s have cooked breakfast, pancakes, jam, cream- the non fattening type, complete with, coffee, tea, biscuits, to all wives, Mother’s, girlfriends and lovers reading this, yes there ‘was plenty of fruit also, ohh and some fat free bags of chips did appear on the tables along with some dark coloured creamy nibbles. Perhaps it is timely that we now thank the following Ladies for the beautiful food that was prepared and served to our team, Marlene Scadding for doing the food shopping and timing duties on pit wall, Karen Juttner for the magnificent soup selection and looking after the kitchen all day, Angela Pigot for the support in the Alfa Kitchen and sash duties. Lucy Crafter with that ever present smile helping with pit wall duties and suggesting to some drivers either could you drive a little faster or in some cases slower. Many thanks Girls for that great support and we look forward to next year. The 6 hour is very much a team event for without the support of your team the 6 hour would be tougher than a labour politician’s life in Qld, the ’blokes in our team, in most cases, spend nearly all day at their post doing timing, sash running, pit wall duties not forgetting the team manager who must keep an eye on all activities to ensure success of the team, in no particular order helpers were, Grant Pigot (Team Manager), Philippe Reeves, Jim Delaine, Phillip Crouch, Matthew Ebel, Mark Juttner, it should also be mentioned that Andrew Scadding always takes on the role of mechanic at these events and was needed throughout the 6 hours for many little ‘Hiccups, every challenge fixed, to Andrew’s credit, Team AIM still had their 6 cars running after the 6 hours, Philippe Reeves should also get a mention for his assistance. Visitors to Team AIM for a coffee n chat were, Vice President Rhys and son Tristan, Steve Angeli, Piers Robertson, Marty Hawkins and his son, Frederick Welsh, Geoff Wiltshire, Luke Jaksa, James Wiltshire, Sam Schmidt, hopefully I have not missed anyone, but be assured, our Club Captain will have your name recorded.

So folks, another 6 hour event has concluded with the rain causing minor panic in the last few hours of the 6, to finish 5th out of 19 teams was a good result, still 1st place eludes us, so we will be back next year with more ideas than a Govt with ‘Politician’s in trouble.

Remember what TEAM stands for.

T.. together

E.. everyone

A.. achieves

M.. more

Cheers for now,

See you at the June 17th Sprint, or the Alfa Romeo Owners Club feature weekend at the Collingrove Hillclimb, Come n Try day on Saturday July 14 with Sunday 15th competition.

Malcolm Ebel

Founder of Team AIM,

Oh why did I do it!!!

April 7th & 8th 2012

You have done your planning weeks in advance written up the list of must have’s, you know, food, mandatory bottle of port for medicinal purposes only, doona, sleeping bag, kettle, toaster and the tent. Garages have been booked so there is not much to do now but get some ‘Go juice’ for the race car load up and wait for that Sunny Easter Friday so I can head North to Mallala and join Marlene and Andrew Scadding who will leave early to ensure their accommodation for the weekend is close by the 240v power, Phil and Christopher Crouch plan to arrive around midday so we can set ourselves up in the “MOTORSPORT Hilton” room numbers 105 & 106 and then settle back for what promises to be one of those great Easter weekends of racing.

Friday comes with a ‘hint of rain but nothing eventuates other than something that felt like a force 10 gale and I am off, heading to Mallala, not all that long into the journey and the wind has blown up a dust storm better than anything I have seen for many a year and you think how wonderful it was cleaning the race car only to be covered in dust, if only that was my biggest challenge for the weekend, but wait there is more to tell later. On arrival at the race circuit, the wind is still a blowing, with some flags at the horizontal something like a salute to those making the effort to be there. The Scaddings are there, just across the driveway from the ‘Hilton rooms, all set up less the quickshade for the race car, guess they like many others did not wish to go find it blown back to Mallala, race car unloaded just as “Team Crouch” arrive and in the blink of a dusty eye, bedrooms have been erected (tents), TV set up in lounge room, kitchen established, toaster, grille, frypan, kettle and chairs, yes the race cars still fit in with the roller door down, just.

Thoughts soon turn to what will “Camp Alfa” provide for the evening meal to feed 4 hungry men and the weekend carer Marlene. The grille is fired up frypan too as the blokes begin digging out from their eskies full of ice enough steak, sausages n chops to feed us all and some. Chef Phil soon has the tucker sizzling away while Marlene prepares the salad. There is still some concern about the weather for the weekend when we hear the driver carer yell out, “could someone turn the volume up on the TV so I can see the weather forecast”, what an unusual Television set, not long after that very comical statement a certain gentleman with a red Alfetta and a Black one too is heard to say, “Geez, I hate a sharp knife that is blunt” Mmm, was it something in the Mallala water. Dinner done, the force 10 gale is now nothing more than a slight breeze and we are off for a quick walk, well a walk anyway, around the race circuit, just a casual 2.6km’s finding some very strange objects in the torchlight that have come adrift from M/Bikes n Cars, knee scrapers, chunks of steel, footrests, bonnet badges and plenty of bolts just to name a few. Back at “Camp Alfa” it is time for a coffee and a drop of that Medicinal Port just might help with some Nasal singing throughout the evening and there was plenty from the three Amigo’s after lights out at 10.

Saturday morning and we hear the call, Mallala time is 6.15 and just in case you missed it, over the loud speakers the morning air stirs yet again, “Mallala time is 6.20am” and the rush is on to be first to showers just in case it was like the old footy club days, last bloke in had a cold one, not so at the “Mallala Hilton” they were great. Chef Phil has the bacon n eggs sizzling away with the toast well done and the coffee looking like liquid gold. Soon the team are ready for action and scrutineering at 7.45am.

There are 140 plus cars entered for the weekend with some very very young oldies managing a tad over a 2min lap time in open top regularity, so practice is over with the Alfa guys achieving some very consistent lap times, all very good really for the coming 6 hour in a month’s time. Soon regularity closed top are called to the grid and with the excitement of a lad many years younger than most drivers we are off for the first of our 6 laps, well some of us did 6 laps, you see the “Little Italian Flag on Wheels” decided it was not going to play anymore and rolls to a very leisurely stop out of harm’s way in the esses. Standing there wondering what might be the challenge ahead, when there at the fence is our treasurer Mark offering some words of wisdom. the lucky Alfa drivers are driving past happily, some with a friendly ‘toot, thanks to Ian Patrick in his Alfa Sud. Tow truck arrives, we hook up and back to the pit garage we go, pushing the car in everything seems ok apart from a little tinkle here and a little tinkle there, in no time at all the “Little Italian Flag on Wheels” is up on axle stands with Christopher Crouch, Phil Crouch and Mark Juttner crawling underneath only to hear that good old Aussie expression bellowing from that cold concrete floor, Sh**t not good, looks like the clutch housing is busted, again, ohh well, weekend over let’s have a coffee n cake. Mark Juttner is not so sure about that, you see Mark believes he might just have another. 6pm as Marlene serves the beef strog – n – off with rice for evening dinner, Ebel’s mobile bursts into life, only to hear Treasurer Mark proudly advise he has found another clutch housing at President Steve’s collection of well used Alfa bits, do you want me to bring it over Sunday morning so you can have another go, doing laps we all presumed, after some discussion with chief mechanic Christopher, decision is OK, thanks Mark, bring the clutch housing over Sunday morning when you can, reply was amazing from Mark, what about 7.30am, will that be ok, what a fantastic offer. Evening dinner has hardly had time to settle when Christopher is already dismantling the Exhaust and anything else that needed to be removed, was, with the help of Dad Phil, workshop supervisors, Andrew n Marlene Scadding were offering moral support with driver Malcolm truly amazed at the prompt reaction to this very challenging job, by 8.00pm we are all looking at one badly broken clutch housing, now we do need a drop of that ‘Medicinal Port so we can keep those memory glands operational on why did this clutch housing break.

Sunday morning after a quick jog over to the shower just in case Mark Juttner does make it to Mallala by 7.30am, coffee made and after just a sip or three, you hear someone say, ‘Marks hear already and the lads are into it, Christopher, Phil and Mark, there are a couple challenges but in about as much time as it takes to change a light bulb they are back under the car, Christopher takes time out to get his car scrutineered and Malcolm walks over to advise he will bring his car over later, no problem, just bring it over when you get it fixed. Job done, car scrutineered and we are ready to go, arrangements made to have a practice run with open top regularity and we are off, passing everything like a bloke on Epsom salts and a smile wider than an American X lotto winner, back in the pits it’s mighty thankyou’s all-round, what an excellent effort by all concerned. Ahha, but that bloke Murphy had other ideas, 3 laps into the first run that mattered, coming out of the esses onto the start finish straight in 3rd gear and going like an Alfetta should, flat out, drop into 4th, BANG, another clutch housing broken, just like the heart of the driver. At least we can roll into pit lane this time only to be greeted by the friendly ‘Firee’s and the cheerful pit lane Marshall Geoff Smyth, back to the pits we go and become a spectator along with so many guys that did everything possible to keep that car mobile, perhaps it was just as well we could not find that medicinal port this time.

Now the good news, Andrew Scadding had a great weekend coming 2nd overall in closed top regularity as this year they combined all runs to determine placings, Christopher Crouch sadly missed one run repairing my car but still did well, Ian Patrick also did well coming 2nd in the last run but his total points lost put him a little down the order. Members that came by “Camp Alfa” to see what these competitors, Malcolm Ebel, Andrew Scadding, Christopher Crouch and Ian Patrick do with their Alfa Romeo were, Mark and Son Matthew Juttner ( Mark both days), Phil Crouch (Both days), Marlene Scadding (Both days), Sunday visitors were, Peter Axford, Ian Barrie, Clive Bennett, Phil Reeves, John Blumson, Dave Buttery and Grandson Tom and Vince Johnson, thanks guys for making the effort.

So folks that is it for another Easter Historic race weekend, however, I must again thank the following for their support and enthusiasm in making every effort to keep my “little Italian Flag on Wheels” mobile, Christopher Crouch, Phil Crouch and Mark Juttner, to see them crawling around under my car 30cm off the concrete on jack stands just to get me back on track will forever be in my memory bank.

Just for info as I finish this article, everything has been checked from the flywheel to the tailshaft couplings, new clutch kit, new input shaft bearings, another clutch housing checked for cracks and any deteriation. Anything that can be balanced has been and now as you read this the “Little Italian Flag on Wheels” has performed well at the 6 hour.

Cheers

Malcolm Ebel

Well here we are after missing the April magazine waiting for the lap times from our first sprint on Sunday March 25th. This Pit Torque will cover, Sprint info night held at Eurosport Automotive, MSCA trophy presentation day, 1st Circuit sprint March 25th and a reminder about the MSCA 6 hour event on Sunday May 6th and a special event at Collingrove.

Sprint info night, we had an excellent number of members, 36 in fact that came along to be informed with the latest detail when circuit sprinting, from the date your fire extinguisher expires (2009) to correct racing lines (DVD from Eurosport), AEAE (Approach, Entry, Apex, Exit when cornering) to the best location of your Dorian timer and some info about tyre pressures from the Bridgestone man Andy Ebel. Thanks also to Geoff Smyth for his demonstration on what is required if you are ever asked to be a flag Marshall. Thanks also to Andrew Scadding, Mike Coles, Laurie Ardill, Clive Bennett and Julie Crafter for their input. Special thanks to Peter Axford, Mark Juttner and Julie Crafter for their support with the food n Nibbles, much appreciated by all being able to present an evening such as this at no cost to the invited.

MSCA Trophy Presentation day, With the threat of temperatures nearing 38* or in the old money 100, with some good luck of good fortune, the weather gods looked favourably upon us as the day was quite pleasant sitting among the trees at Serafino Wines, McLaren Vale waiting with great expectation for the reason we are all there, not only to support the MSCA and the officials that make it all happen year in year out, but you just never know someone in the Alfa Club might take home a class winning trophy or two. Viano Jaksa had arranged a club cruise that received little support, but Viano keep smiling, and wishes to arrange another, so please support the next “Jaksa Journey” when arranged and keep the man happy n smiling. Soon we are called to attend the Trophy presentation, there we are watching and waiting like an expectant father for at least one of our members to be called, it is Peter Axford, so with the speed of an Alfa I jog out the front to collect the group S winner’s trophy, well done Pete, then we hear more rustling in the trees as they call out the group R winner, but this time we watch Michael Katsikitis with a smile wider than the boot of an Alfa Sud collect his trophy, well done Michael. Best club display went to MG who did themselves proud with their display, gold balloons, champagne, cup cakes and more, MG were only celebrating 50 years, makes you wonder how come Alfa Romeo did not make so much more of our 100 years back in 2010. Special thanks to Steve Weedon and Mark Juttner for towing the club trailer so we all had some shade from the Gazebo’s and the Bar b for our lunch.

Sunday March 25th First circuit sprint for the year, driving North toward Mallala, soon the need is there to pull down the Visor swing it past the eyes full of concentration on the road ahead as the rising sun warms up the right hand ear lobe and arm, you quickly realise that the day is promising to be a beauty, dry track no wind with a ‘hint of sunshine, the race car has had a little ‘Tinker here and there and ready to stir that Dorian timer into action, what more can a race driver wish for, a quick check in the rear view mirror and all is well as the race car is still there looking back at you and in no time at all I arrive trackside to see many an Alfa settled patiently in the pits just waiting to turn a wheel in anger, many of these great cars (Alfa Romeo) have only been parked at home resting for about 5 months just waiting for this day. A quick count and you soon realise the Alfa Romeo Owners Club is very well represented, we have 29 members ready to face the starters flag, in fact, the start line grid girl doing the form up and making sure we are all in the correct spot, is our very own Lucy Crafter with that ever present smile, well done Lucy, thanks for the support. We also welcome some new drivers this year, Zack Souri, Luke Jaksa and Bob Davenport, hope you all had a great day and look forward to seeing you again June 17th. Other members burning some rubber on the day, Paul Connelly, Andrew Poulsen, Nick Lenthall, Guy Standen, Andrew Scadding, Sam Schmidt, yes our previous editor made the effort and came over from WA to have a run and will be back for the 6 hour, Joe Grilli, Michael Katsikitis, Bob Clift, Mal Ebel, Andy Ebel, Mike Coles, James Ashby, Laurie Ardill, Ian Patrick, Chris Crouch, Viano Jaksa, Rick Miklic, Neil Heywood, Simon Delaine, Andrew Coles, Ian Barrie, Jim Delaine, Dale Ashby, Frederick Welsh and Peter Axford.

Flag Marshalls provided by the Alfa Club were, Julie Crafter, Phil Crouch, Mark Juttner and Paulo DePaula many thanks for the support folks, as we all know, without flag Marshalls there can be no circuit sprint. Visitors were many, Marlene Scadding, President Steve Weedon, many thanks Steve on behalf of all those club members that made use of the club trailer that you thankfully towed out to Mallala for us to burn a sausage or three for lunch, Gerald Marsson, Dave Mayers, great to see an old racing mate visiting and watching us play, still riding around on his trusty fold up bike, Bobbie and Dave Barwick, Bruce Field, Darrin Field, James Wadsworth who came out to help Chris Crouch, also spotted Chris and Gaye Schmidt watching their Sam swinging through turn 1, turn 2, turn 3 in fact all corners, finally to complete our list of spectators there was possibly the youngest guy to be seen watching his ‘Daddy race around in his Grandpa’s Alfa 75, Samuel Jaksa all dressed up in his little red Ferrari top wondering what all the fuss is about, however, mum Ruth was making sure he was safely tucked under her arm and out of harm’s way.

Scrutineering and Drivers briefing all finished as we ready ourselves for our first timed run for the year with the expectation that the revised MSCA form up procedure will work to the satisfaction of all concerned. Group 1 is called consisting mainly of Clubman, then Group 2 with a couple of members settling into their grid spot, Paul Connelly, Andrew Poulsen and Nick Lenthall, Group 3 Peter Axford, Guy Standen achieved a personal best time, Andrew Scadding, Sam Schmidt, Joe Grilli, Michael Katsikitis who achieved a personal best time for the day, Bob Clift, Group 4 and there are plenty more Alfa Romeo, Malcolm Ebel, Andy Ebel who also achieved a personal best before a small bolt dropped into the gear lever well, stopping his gear changing, and I thought I was doing a great job catching him, Mike Coles, James Ashby and Laurie Ardill. Group 5 Ian Patrick, Christopher Crouch, Viano Jaksa, Rick Miklic, Neil Heywood and Simon Delaine achieving a personal best time. Group 6 Andrew Coles, Ian Barrie, Jim Delaine achieving a personal best time also, must be something in the breakfast food at the ‘Delaine household.

New drivers having a go for the first time, Luke Jaksa achieving a very good time and showing Dad Viano how to do it, Bob Davenport who tested the Alfetta by spinning just to show he could and keep going, well done Bob, Zack Souri driving an Alfa prepared by the team at Eurosport Automotive was having a ball, then we had a couple of drivers that changed cars from last year, Dale Ashby and Frederick Welsh in the monster Corvette who knocked out a time of 1m19 and reckons he could go at least 2 sec’s faster, guess we will never know the answer to that one. I am sure we all had a great day, come on June 17. Collingrove Hillclimb July 14th & 15th has been locked in for weekend naming rights called “Alfa Romeo Car Club feature Day” Saturday being a Come n Try day with a Sunday competition. Please let me know if you would be interested, come n try cost is very reasonable, early bird entry fee $55 regular $65, Winter Cup competition Non SCCSA members $105, SCCSA members $85, all drivers must hold a CAMS licence. AROCA committee have been discussing the feasibility of having a club run on the Saturday and the SCCSA will give us a selected car park area for our Alfa car display, let’s try something different. Timing: Saturday gates open 8.30am, Scrutineering from 8.45am, Drivers briefing 9.30am with first car up the hill at 9.45am. Sunday: everything is half an hour earlier, i.e., Gates open at 8.00am. Lunch break both days is around 1.00pm, so folks if you are interested just send an email to competitionsecretary@alfaclubsa.org.au and depending on interest let’s see if we can get a group together and have a go at the ‘Hill. We do not have to support both days but that would be a more suitable option as the weekend will be called, “Alfa Romeo Car Club feature Day”. (or should that be feature days?)

Easter Historic Race meeting will be a separate report.

To wind up this overgrown Pit Torque, hope you are still with me, welcome again our new drivers, Bob Davenport, Luke Jaksa and Zack Souri and may all future events you enter be as enjoyable as your first, to those drivers achieving their fastest lap time around Mallala, well done, as that is always a challenge in our sport to be that little better each year, to the Class winners in the MSCA competition, Michael Katsikitis and Peter Axford, congratulations Guys, coming first in that competition is no easy task and very challenging considering the number of cars entered in each class. Next event would be the 6 hour on May 6th, however, as you read this the winners have no doubt told everyone, Uncles, Aunties even the neighbour, with the enthusiasm of an F1 winner, let us hope it is one of the four teams from our club. Next Circuit Sprint is Sunday June 17th all club drivers look forward to your support and would like to see your backside Trackside. Remember this: Alfa Romeo 100 years one love.

Some Magazine readers just love that quote, stay safe, Malcolm Ebel, Comp Sec.

Remember: “Keep it on the Black Stuff” May 2012

Firstly as we read our club magazine with the aroma of a well made coffee filling the nostrils of an excited Alfa Romeo owner I trust that we are still trying to satisfy the brain cells and come up with the answer to the question on page 17 of our last magazine.
To those among us that correctly identified the person who said ‘Don’t look at the clouds of tomorrow through the sunshine of today’ you must enjoy rock music, ‘cos it was that rock legend of a bloke, Mick Jagger, now who would have thought that.
As we read this article our Super Sprint info evening at Eurosport will have been finalised with 36 drivers both young and senior coming along to learn to a little from each other, more detail in our next mag.
What are you doing on Sunday March 25th? This will be our first event for the year with perhaps a couple of new drivers having a go, Luke Jaksa will be there to show Dad how to do it, well that is what Luke told me. Why not come for a drive out to Mallala and see some of our famous Alfa Romeo racing around the circuit along with perhaps 70 other vehicles of all brands, no entry fee to the circuit or pit area, sure beats mowing the lawn and there is every chance we could have our club trailer with Bar B Q there if you want to burn a sausage or three for lunch as the new MSCA format now allows time for a driver and officials lunch break.
Easter Historic race meeting, we still only have Ian Patrick, Christopher Crouch, Andrew Scadding and Malcolm Ebel nominated for this event, please let me know if you have entered so if possible we can again have “Camp Alfa” full of many models giving us a variety of Alfa Romeo, want to have a go, just give Malcolm or Andrew Scadding a call, still time to get your earlybird entry in and save.
MSCA 6 Hour, have you organised your team as yet? May 6th is looming fast, one of our club teams has had more meetings than Julia Gillard has had cabinet meetings and they are raring to go. Just for info, you do not drive for 6 hours, if you have 6 cars in your team you will most likely drive 2 half hour sessions depending on team orders from your team manager, a great fun day for all concerned.
So that is it folks until our competition season begins on Sunday March 25th.
Remember, “Keep it on the Black stuff”
See your backside trackside,
Cheers
Malcolm Ebel
Competition Secretary

Happy new year folks as we enter another competition year for the members of our great club that take their pride and joy around Mallala for some serious fast and furious driving. Best place to do it is around a purpose built race circuit as in most cases we are all going in the same direction, however, some of us have been known to check the oncoming traffic from time to time.

Have you been tinkering with your Alfa over the Xmas New Year holiday break, if so the competition committee would like to know about it so we all continue to compete in the correct class and all “Sing off the same song sheet”. Need some help with this, just contact, Peter Axford (Eurosport Automotive), Andrew Scadding or Malcolm Ebel. Vehicle changes mainly effect cars other than those in racing class, however, unless you have had that little man in his red suit place a Supercharger under the Xmas tree, then we sure do want know about it.

What else is new?

CAMS have decided to again introduce the ruling that all fire extinguishers must be no more than 3 years old, so if yours is dated 2008 or older suggest you contact one of our excellent club supporters, Julie Crafter of Car Torque products (see advert in this Magazine) who will happily supply you a new one. Folks, the cost of a new fire extinguisher, at around $25 – $30 would be one of the most cost effective outlays we have for our race car and when we consider the cost of our race car, should we need a fire extinguisher I would want mine to work and work well.

AROCA SA Supersprint information night, Feb 22nd at Eurosport Automotive, currently we have 24 sprint members coming along, many thanks to Julie Crafter, “Car Torque Products” for their support and Peter and Helen Axford for the use of “Eurosport”.

MSCA trophy presentation day, this year, Feb 26th, will be held at Serafino Estate Wines, McLaren Vale (formerly McLaren on the Lakes) Come along and support your fellow club members. All AROCA club members are welcome you just never know we may snag a trophy or two as we have done in the past. Before you leave for home, why not call in and have a chat to long term club member, Joe Grilli of Primo Estate Wines.

Easter Historic race meeting Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of April, sprinters have you entered as yet? Either for the regularity or racing as the early bird entry fee applies prior to March 9th. Regularity is $180, good value at $90 per day with Sunday brekkie included. Three entrants to date, Malcolm Ebel, Christopher Crouch and Life Member Andrew Scadding with ‘DAG, (driver assist girl) life member Marlene Scadding to keep an eye on the lads.

MSCA revised format for entry and grid position, this will be discussed in more detail at the Sprint info night at Eurosport on Feb 22nd. However the MSCA believe we needed to improve how we form up, always a challenge when we have in excess of 90 cars at most events. The hope was that we could save some time, and the MSCA and all club delegates believe we have found a workable system. Entry form will have provision for the entrant to nominate their fastest lap time from the previous year on the their entry form before it is posted to the MSCA, the MSCA will then put all entrants into a group and form up grid position (Number), entrants can then check this on the MSCA website approx 1 week before the event, no more standing around in the scrutineering bay like seagulls over a hot chip checking where you might be for the first run and runs after that, new format means you stay in the original positions. No practice session, only for new comers and cars that have had major performance upgrades, double entered cars will be allocated a grid spot.

So Folks, on behalf of the Competition Committee, Peter Axford, Andrew Scadding and the bloke that typed up “pit Torque” may you have a successful competition year ahead. To all members have a great year and you are most welcome to join us at Mallala, no entry fee, just come on in and check out some of the Alfa Romeo and many other brands having a go at improving their fastest lap time.

Remember,
“Keep it on the Black Stuff”

Cheers
Malcolm Ebel
AROCA SA Competition Secretary Feb 2012

Who said this,
“Don’t look at the clouds of tomorrow, through the Sunshine of today”.
