Club Meeting Minutes

MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEETING OF AROCA (SA) HELD ON THURSDAY February 2nd, 2023.

AT THE SPORTING CAR CLUB

51 King William Road, Unley.

Meeting opened at 8.00pm

APOLOGIES. Andrew and Jackie Schlein, Rhys Williams, Nick Sharpley, Vince Johnson, Gary, and Jane Savis.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: Welcomed all to our First meeting for the year and pointed out the fire exits, coffee available and bathrooms. 

President welcomed Dave Buttery after a few health challenges, was pleased to see Dave and thanked Bob Davenport for being the Uber tonight for Dave. 

President values generosity and loyalties and thanked Pat Storr for supplying the supper without a reminder to do so. Not that Pat ever needs to be reminded.

Club magazine, please collect your copy tonight, this will save postage.

Dawnbuster run will be discussed at coming committee meeting, it will not be Sunday March 5th, as that is Auto Italia and we will need helpers; Adam Hughes will be a show n shine judge. President asked for a show of hands, regarding the Dawnbuster, early morning start or later. Early got the ‘Nod.

Eurosport meeting was a great success. Our thanks to Adam and Em, Peter Axford, Joe Riccardi and Bob Davenport. Secretary addition: Thanks also to past President Steve Weedon for bringing the club trailer.

Alfesta, Toowoomba was discussed, members going from our club, President Viano, Past President Steve, Jim, and Christine Delaine. If you are interested check with Viano, there may still be spots available.

Next meeting, Thursday March 2nd, will be an away meeting at Doppietta, 26 Oakley Street, Adelaide.

Guest speaker tonight, Gordon Meek, Solitaire Automotive Alfa Romeo.

Vice President: Keeping with his tradition having little to say so will not break with that tradition, however, the All Alfa Day, incorporating our traditional Alfas in Clover show n shine has been finalised for Sunday April 16th at the Wigley Reserve, Glenelg, lock the date in your diaries.

Treasurer: Finance report tabled. All Alfa Day costs high, half the cost is a deposit that we will get back provided we leave the reserve as we found it. Treasurer asked for questions from the floor, no comments, we moved on.

Secretary: Will update our records for major club trophies, if you have one of these please advise the names on it from 2014 and the trophy you have. Club Magazines from AROC USA, NZ, Qld, NSW, Victoria, SIC, and SA Motor.

Incoming mail and emails, McLaren Vale’s Vintage and Classic, the grand parade of motoring history, Sunday April 23rd. Show of hands for interest, six members, will be discussed at committee meeting to finalise action required. Cost per car $35, proceeds go to Volunteer groups.

Sporting Car Club, room hire has increased from $145 to $150 per meeting from tonight.

Competition Secretary: MSCA Trophy Day Sunday February 26th, Virgara Winery, Heaslip Road, Angle Vale.

Come and try day, Mallala, Sunday March 12th, $175 per driver, also 1st round of sprinting.

Sunday April 10th, MG Car club need help for their national event being held at The Bend, West circuit. MG Car Club will supply $50 to cover petrol, lunch, and a hat will also be provided.

Social Secretary: Eurosport Bar B night great attendance. Dawnbuster Run will be advertised in next club magazine, Mailchimp will also be sent.

Club Captain: Bob advised there will be a Jaguar Club event at The Bend, Monday April 17th, open invite to any club member wishing to attend.

Raffle prizes tonight were donated by Steve Weedon (wine) Life members  Andrew and Marlene Scadding supplied the jumper leads.

Thanks also to Bursons and Gordon Meek for past prizes.

Club shop: Not tonight, Steve Weedon was bar manager, thanks Steve.

GENERAL BUSINESS: Auto Italia now Sunday March 5th, do we need to reenter, Viano advised no, original entry will be used. AIA committee will arrange an email to all previous entrants. Car park help will again be required, see Viano if you can assist. 

Life member Lloyd Clonan was amazed at the excellent attendance at the Eurosport Bar B, who are they? Me-mo replied 99% were club members.

Steve Weedon advised the excellent service from EB spares in the UK, ordered Monday arrived today, Thursday.

BUY, SELL, SWAP: Steve Weedon has an Alfa 164, $1,000 to $1500, project car. See Steve as he also has many specials on offer.

Bruce Wood selling Son’s 2009 MiTo, V/good condition, asking $12,000.

Lloyd Clonan selling rather large brake caliper bracket suit 147.

Viano Jaksa selling many 147 parts including a 147 Ti sunroof.

President Viano introduced Gordon Meek.

Entertainment: Gordon Meek did an excellent job of telling and showing us with the help of Viano as projectionist, all he could about the future of the Alfa Romeo product, sadly for some, the all-electric car and Hybrid will soon be with us in a very short period. 

In summary, the future is looking very good for the Alfa Romeo product, we can expect to see many model changes that will fire up the passion of a true Alfisti. Thanks Gordon.
